  1. Really helpful — thank you, Marcy. I appreciate your perspective and insight since you’ve been the mother at six weddings! We Type 1 women can never just “show up, shut up, and wear beige” — LOL, soooo not our nature!

It’s good to have confirmation that, when we are asked to follow a wedding color palette that doesn’t align with our Type 1 DYT guide, the priority is to honor the wishes of the person being married. It’s useful to see how we can bring in the other elements of our guidelines (design line, texture, fabrication, pattern) to make the outfit as Type 1 as possible!

  2. This will be so helpful in the future! I am in an in-between stage of life where my kids are in college and I haven’t been to a wedding lately. But I’m going to remember this for when that time comes! I always appreciate what you share Marcy– you always do things with a lot of class!

  3. Wow, I totally LOVE your black & white formal dress!! I’d love to have a copy of it in another color too. The collar is UH-MAZING! Thanks for the tips on using the other 4 design elements.

  4. I’m a Type 4 with a wedding to attend (October). I have four dresses in mind and had asked my sisters for input. It was the first time I’d heard “don’t wear red to a wedding.” Meanwhile the red dress I have in mind seems the most appropriate. I clicked on this video because of the title — choosing the right color. I’m pleased that this video really helped me to think again about the cut and style in addition to the color of the dress I’ll ultimately choose. Marcy, your advice is wise and uplifting. Thank you.
