“Good Hair” and Generational Shame: Deborah’s Hair Story

How healing your childhood wounding can free you and your experience with your hair!

We all have a hair story, but for many, it is preventing us from living our truth and creating a positive experience with our hair.

Deborah, one of my Type 4 DYT Experts, and I talk openly about what it meant to have “good hair” as a mixed race woman, what that required,  and what the origins and reasons for needing to change her natural movement in her hair were.

I appreciate Deborah’s vulnerability in sharing publicly an experience she was taught to hide to prevent being shamed for being a mixed race woman.

I know that you will find this insightful and help you identify your own hair story and what could be holding you back:

  • (4:36) When and how Deborah realized this hair belief was a compromise.
  • (7:00) What surprised her through her personal work in my Healing Center, and how she inadvertently healed things that were holding her back with her hair.
  • (9:48) This healing opened the options for her to now experience her hair this way.
  • (11:00) Do you ever wonder this to yourself about your hair, “Why am I making this such a big deal?” This could be why.

We all have had or still have,  shameful beliefs about our bodies, our hair, and our overall appearance.  What is a shameful belief you have let go of since Dressing Your Truth?

As you continue to let go of these compromises and chose to love who you are as a woman, just like Deborah you can create a style and a hairstyle you love.

More support for loving yourself and your hair:
