How Trying to Please Your Parents Could Make You Mis-Type Yourself!

Did you try to please one of your parents while you were growing up?

It’s natural to want recognition, validation, and attention from our parents—but this can cause us to lose touch with who we really are!

This week on #EnergyProfilingWithCarol, I’m featuring Jen, the amazing shopper for the new Lifestyle feature, StyleInspire! She’ll share her own Before & After journey and how she discovered her true Energy Types.

  1. Jen’s style-boards are wonderful. Brava, Jen! Writing as someone who does not live in the USA, they are delicious food for inspiration.

  2. Style inspired is a great addition to Lifestyle this type 1 is loving it! Thank you Jen for you wonderful hard work and beautiful taste in style. I have to say I purchased the Aug. 14 embroidered denim jacket with the hello sunshine embroidered on the jacket and I am thinking about adding some more light embroidery to the jacket anyway might be a fun project. Love that Lifestyle inspires me to grow! 🙂

  3. Hi – just wanted to say that i related to the topic of this video because i am having issues w/finding out who i really am and what my dominant energy type is because of having to change myslf for my father (be approved/loved,etc.) – also another funny thing is that i find it easier to sense other ppl’s energy type than for my own self – for example, just before I heard Carol say Jen looked like Celine Dion, i thought to myself she looked like Celine Dion! thought that was interesting!
thank you for this video ~

  4. I was so pleased to meet Jen at the event! I could not imagine her as anything but a T3 and she always looks great.

  5. One thing I learned about Carol Tuttle in this video that surprised me is that she does not go around profiling everyone she sees or comes in contact with… I always had this picture in my mind that Carol Tuttle was like a laser beam that would meet someone and immediately in her mind go “There’s a type 2!” or “Oh, she’s type 3!” Just boom, boom, boom like a machine… It really encouraged me to hear that even Carol doesn’t right off the bat know someone else’s energy type… So to me- it’s like, “Well if even Carol doesn’t instantly know someone’s energy type- why should I?? If it take her time to assess, shouldn’t that be all the more reason for ME to take time?” I don’t know- it was just reassuring to hear that she evolves and learns and reassess her initial reactions at times, like with Celine Dion, etc. I enjoyed hearing her inner process.

  6. Yes Carol! That martyr syndrome is a corrosive thing. I’m wear plus sizes and I’m very aware that there are really limited options for a larger woman who wants to dress well. Tim Gunn took aim at this a few years ago. It’s not DYT’s problem–it’s a society-wide and industry-wide issue.

  7. Recognizing my 2/1 in contrast to my parent’s 3/4 4/3 has been very liberating and validating. What a relief to realize that I’m right just the way I am. At first I thought I was a 2/3.

  8. This was very useful: thank you Jen for sharing your experience with everybody. I always find it very brave that these women are sharing personal experiences and insights with all of us. So, first and foremost, THANK YOU.
This was very useful: usually we tend to think that, when overwriting our dominant, we are functioning in our secondary. But this video helped me see that it’s not necessarily that way! We can overwrite our dominant with another type that’s NOT our secondary. I’m sure this will be very helpful for me. Thanks Carol and DYT for everything!
