Let’s talk makeup favorites and organization!
My makeup storage system used to consist of a messy drawer where I haphazardly stashed everything.
It was a grave source of frustration because I spent so much time shuffling items around to find what I needed. I couldn’t apply my makeup quickly!
Taking time to organize my makeup has paid off in huge ways.
Here’s what I did to get organized and whip my makeup storage into shape:
1. I went to the store and bought a few storage containers.
- I bought a long, thin container for my long brushes.
- I got another long, wider container to hold all my shadows, blush, and foundations.
- I also got smaller ones to hold my hair bands, bobby pins, and lipsticks.
This has made a huge difference for me. My drawer looks so much better, I feel much more sane, and my makeup application time is way down!
2. I treated myself to a really good travel makeup bag.
When I’m at home, I don’t use a makeup bag—I have a super organized drawer like I described above.
But, I have one makeup bag that I take on trips!
I don’t take all of my items with me everywhere I go! The bag stays empty until I am packing for a trip and I grab all my essentials and any extra I want for the specific trip. The items I’m sharing below are the makeup products that go with me every time!
Makeup Essentials Every Type 1 Needs
This brush always goes with me. I can apply my powder foundation or my bb cream with it. It’s so nice to have a brush that works so well for both applications. I use the powder when my face has fewer breakouts. And then I use the bb cream when I have more breakouts, red spots, etc. to cover. And every day, my face is different! Which is why I bring both!
This kit has all the brushes I need to apply my makeup at home and while traveling. No need to worry about which brushes should come with me. Having the ease of the starter kit shows me all the brushes I would need to use. Blush, eyes, liner. All there!
3. Foundation
Being a Type 1, I love the light feel of the Dual Blend Powder Foundation. It’s lightweight, goes on so fast, and has good coverage. I use 103 in the winter and 105 in the summer when my face sees the sun a little more. Give yourself that freedom too of having two colors for the different seasons! This way, your foundation always matches your skin and you’ll have a flawless look.
4: BB Cream
This foundation has great coverage for when I have more red spots and/or dry areas that show up as red. I normally don’t like liquid foundation because it can feel heavy. But the BB Cream is SO light! It’s the best.
Let’s talk eyebrows! This brow brush has been with me for years and years. Those stray eyebrows don’t stand a chance!
6: Eyebrow Powder & Felt Tip Brow Definer Pen
A lot of us have been using the powder for years and loving it, but my newest addition is the pen! A few flicks of this baby and your eyebrows are filled in and ready to party. I always use the spoolie end of the Brow Duo brush to make sure the brows are set in place after the pen’s application. Such a perfect combination.
This kit is absolutely perfect to take on the go. The magnetic compact is a great size to fit into most makeup bags. And you can customize it with any of your shadows, brow powder, or blushes. The colors that do come with it are a no-brainer to take. You get mascara, eyeliner, lip liner, lipstick, and lip gloss. Really, this is the only makeup you would need to take with you.
I do like to customize my travel bag a bit more and I add sweet, sweet Golden Glow. It’s perfect to use as a base eyeshadow (sometimes I only use Golden Glow for eyeshadow) or as a highlight to your cheeks, nose, and cupid’s bow.
8: Eyeshadow Colors
Eyeshadows that I add to the makeup compact are Dreamer, the perfect pink. Hibiscus, this coral color I feel is so neutral and can match any color you have on. And Unicorn always comes with me also. It’s probably my most favorite.
9: Mascara
The mascara that usually ends up coming with me is our Vibrant Blue Lash Excellence Mascara. I love its enchanting bright blue color, and I feel it adds depth to my eyes.
It’s so fun to be able to change what items make it into my travel makeup bag. But these above? They are staples!
Okay, now it’s your turn!
