The Differences Between a Type 2 & Type 4 Pixie Cut

Can a pixie cut be connected, flowing, and fluid?

What about bold, structured, and regal?

The answer is yes! Our Expert Stylist, Nicole, is here to show you how. She shares images of each Type with each Secondary Energy so that you know exactly what to ask for at your next hair appointment!

We’d love to see your pixie cut, so share a picture in the comments below.

  1. Thank you sooooo much Nicole for this series! I am 2/3 with short hair and have been trying to figure out how to add a little edge and drama to my style without becoming overly structured and this video has really clarified it for me. I love the 2/3 example and now have a pic to show my stylist. Yay!

  2. Can we get a few more examples of what would be a 2/4 pixie? I need more examples than what is available through the link, please. It’s too long and not my style at all. Been struggling with what a 2/4 pixie would look like, and this didn’t help much, although I do appreciate the effort and help. Thanks!

    1. I suggest you google search the words flowy sleek pixies. I did this and a lot of great images came up that you might like. Use the key words that represent the hairstyle you are looking for. This is what I do for every makeover we do and always find great options to show Nicole.

This is one that came up: https://therighthairstyles.com/18-stunning-looks-with-pixie-cut-for-round-face/9/ . I think it’s perfect for a 2/4, with or without the bold highlight. But, the bold highlight featuring a more subdued color would be spot on for a 2/4.

  3. Hooray! I must have instinctively chosen the perfect pixie for my 4/3! I just cut my hair, and it’s styled EXACTLY like the example for 4/3 you’ve shown! I feel great in this style. Thanks for the confirmation!

  4. How do you post a question? I have tried 3 times over the last 12 hours but my question never shows?

  5. Right away, I knew I was a type 2 with secondary 4. Never for a moment have a doubted that. And yet, I have always been confused on my hair. First, being a type 2, the first thing for me is comfort in every aspect of my life. When it comes to my hair however, I have poker straight hair. Not an “S”, wave, or curl to be found. So, when I hear about 2’s needing waves or curls in their hair, this means I would have to put them there and this means being uncomfortable as I sit each morning with a curling iron. Right now, my hair takes less than 5 minutes with just blowing my part over and some hair spray. So, when I went to change my hairstyle, I picked a dramatic type 4 pixie. Dramatic because it shows all of my ear (almost shaved around the top of the ear) and has drop down in from of the ear. This is because my hair is incredibly thick and so it’s easiest and most comfortable to keep very short. What I did try to do though was go more 2 in the color. The sample pic of the website was very dark with mahogany highlights. I went lighter and asked for “caramel” highlights. My question is this, when deciding on hairstyle, should I stay true to my type 2 self as far as needing it to be comfortable, even if I am sacrificing the type 2 appearance? This is the only aspect of the program I have struggled with in my year or so doing it 🙂 https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a01ca6b12a265d6daa1b9d1b2025a0a7fa497d31f946619d71440d0e76024d23.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/cd053da4f185a2a131c78f6b1f537202182a0d593d79fc03e876f3e1e18a93db.jpg

    1. Are you a course owner Kim. If you are are you are eligible for a hair consultation . I highly recommend you get a hair consultation with Nicole, my DYT Stylist. She could make some great recommendations incorporating your criteria, that include cut, color, styling products and methods. I have very thick hair as well, and the cut is very, very important from a stylist that is really good at cutting hair. They need to thin your hair properly to be able to create the style you want. I also recommend you try a style with a stacked back cut like #10, #18, and #19 on this page http://www.lovely-hairstyles.com/20-long-pixie-haircut-for-thick-hair.html

      1. Thanks so much Carol! Yes, I am a course owner and Lifestyle member. Thank you so much for your feedback and that great link of styles. I know having thick hair is a blessing, but it sure causes my stylist a lot of extra work as she has to “thin the snot out of it” (Texas talk LOL). She’s been a stylist for 30 years and says I have the thickest hair she’s ever worked with. I will check into the hair consultation! Thanks again.

        1. I know your experience! I have my haircut every 4 weeks and Nicole cuts more out than off each time!! I think you’re going to find what you want without having to make any compromises of comfort! It’s a process, I look at my hair in some of my older videos and think “what was I thinking!!” Thanks for being such a great customer.

  6. Thank you for this post! I love these looks and the explanation of the differences among primary and secondary types. The link to the 4/1 pixies isn’t working. Is there a different link I could go to for examples?
