These boots were made for walking!
…Or sitting, or standing. You choose!
I’m Kalista, your Dressing Your Truth Type 4 Expert. One of my favorite things about fall is the change of wardrobe.
I love sweaters, layers, jackets, and BOOTS! The sleek way I feel in a great pair of boots can’t be beat.
Choosing a perfect pair of boots is as simple and straightforward as selecting any other Type 4 wardrobe item.
Follow these 5 guidelines and you’ll be confident about your choice in boots.
1. Stick with the 5 Elements of Style of Dressing Your Truth for a Type 4
If you do, you’ll win every time!
Let’s review the 5 Elements:
Design Line:
- Look for clean, straight lines. Square or pointed-toe boots are perfect for your bold structured energy. Avoid slouchy or softened designs, if you are drawn to that look, be sure that the other elements are spot on.
Texture:
- You want the material to feel sleek and smooth. It can be matte, but high-shine is a big plus. Consider bringing in a high shine with a pair of metallic silver boots, that can be worn as a neutral color.
Pattern:
- Most boots come in solid colors, but if you can find a bold, high-contrast pattern then go for it! Accents can act as pattern with bold details, colored soles, and zippers.
Fabrication:
- Focus on structured or fitted styles. Avoid soft or unstructured materials that feel limp or floppy.
Color:
- This is where you can have a lot of fun. What is your favorite Type 4 hue? Red, royal blue, purple? (Use your Style Guide to find colors that are truly Type 4.) Add a pair of boots in your favorite color and wear them with an all-black or all-white monochromatic outfit. Talk about making a bold statement. Can we say “stunning?”
2. Watch the details
Hardware and zippers should create no or high contrast and be the same color as the boot, or clean silver. Avoid excessive embellishments, as this can make your style look busy.
3. Consider the occasion.
When and how will you wear the boot?
As for boot height and heel height, consider how and where you plan to wear them.
Will these be paired with a skirt or pants? Are you wearing them to make your legs look lean and long, or are they to keep you warm and dry in the snow? Here is a helpful guide for boots to wear for your body shape.
4. Consider style
What style are you pairing your boot with?
For example, equestrian or riding boots look great with slim or straight-leg jeans. Knee-length boots with a heel go nicely with knee-length skirts.
Chelsea boots are classic paired with boot-cut or wide-leg pants, or a midi skirt.
Over the last couple of years, my favorite go-to boots have been black Chelsea boots. I love how timeless they are, and the versatility they give me.
The low heel is comfortable and practical in my snowy winter climate. They give me great style and warm comfort. I can wear them with straight-leg or jeans, or a midi skirt.
