Watch the Pop: How to Find Balance in Your Wardrobe

How to balance your fun, bright Type 1 outfits

We Type 1’s love it when things “pop,” don’t we?!

We want the bright colors, the shiny jewelry, and the animation!

But sometimes we can get a little overly “popped!”

I have a few suggestions to help balance the pop so it’s supporting you.

3 Easy Steps to Watch the Pop!

1. Consider your secondary Type of beauty.

If you’re a 1/3 you can get away with more pop. If you’re a 1/2, you’ll feel better when your pop is more subdued. And if you’re a 1/4, you’ll feel fabulous with pop that’s more structured.

2. Don’t feel like all of your clothing needs to have pop!

These are the biggest pieces your eyes are drawn to, so if your top and bottom have all the animation and “wow” factor, it could be too much. Neutrals will be your BFF when you’re balancing your outfit.

3. Include your cute and adorable accessories!

Remember that you can use accessories and jewelry to jazz up or tone down an outfit too! If you opt for a neutral top or bottom, don’t be afraid that your outfit will be “boring.” You can use fun shoes, sparkly earrings, or a fun necklace to add that pizzaz back in!

Now let’s see it in action!

In this first picture, I am poppin’ — quite literally!

There are three vibrant colors here — green, blue, and pink — none of them are pastels. They all have a good force of color to them.

My accessories are full color — pink and blue in the necklace, pink earrings, and a gold and pink bracelet.

This outfit could totally work for a Type 1/3 who is comfortable with this level of pop.

But for most Type 1’s, this could be too much.

As you’re adding color and animation, feel out what’s correct for you. If you start to feel uncomfortable, you’ll know the pop is too much.

Which takes me to my second outfit!

This second outfit is so sweet. Here I’ve traded out the pink shirt. A simple swap, but it makes a BIG difference!

Adding a neutral color like white, brown, or navy helps balance the pop. You can even mix patterns, keeping in mind the balance of neutrals.

And now my outfit features two colors predominantly. If you want to add a third color, go ahead and add it into the accessories.

Any secondary could feel comfortable in this level of movement.

Now let’s move onto my 3rd outfit.

This third outfit feels more comfortable for a Type 1/2.

Now let me explain what I mean by “comfortable.”

I don’t mean it in the Type 2 sense which refers to the softened or cozy feel of the fabric. Every Type of beauty has a level of comfort.

So what I mean is, this outfit makes YOU comfortable, it’s not necessarily about the feel and touch of the fabric.

Type 1/2’s may like this because you don’t have the super structure of the green blazer. I’ve only paired two colors. If this is still too much pop, trade out the pink top for a white top. And keep the accessories colorful.

And this fourth outfit appeals more to a Type 1/4.

I’ve replaced the skirt with pants and opted for a more neutral top. That’s it!

The skirt had a lot of flow, so the jeans add more structure. It’s so fun that making simple changes can dramatically impact the whole outfit, and make it better for a Type 1/4 secondary!

And that’s how you watch the pop—so easy, right?

It would be really fun to see examples of how you could add too much pop, and then another picture showing the right amount of pop for you! Show a side-by-side picture with other Type 1’s in our community!
