You hear a lot about Yin Yang in Energy Profiling—but what exactly do we mean?
The concept of Yin Yang comes to us from ancient Chinese philosophy and describes how seemingly opposing energies are interdependent. They always exist in partnership and complement each other.
Yin is usually characterized as slow, soft, insubstantial, diffuse, wet, cold. and tranquil. It’s generally associated with the feminine, birth and generation, and with the night. Yin energy is light, still, and moves inward to create.
Yang, by contrast, is characterized as hard, fast, solid, dry, focused, hot, and aggressive. It’s generally associated with masculinity and daytime. Yang energy is radiant, firm, dynamic, and moves outward to create.
In Energy Profiling, Yin Yang is seen as an introvert/extrovert energy and plays an important role that supports us in living our true nature. Each Energy Type has its own Yin Yang quality. Let’s look at each one.
Type 1 – Yang/Yin:
Yang = outward, animated, and radiant
Yin = light, crisp, fresh
This Yang/Yin energy combination expresses itself as a Type 1 person moves outward first, in an upward, animated way. The energy then moves inward in a crisp, fresh way. The Yang energy supports Type 1 people in jumping forward, taking action and gathering information as they go. The Yin energy supports them in moving inward to process the information in a way that feels light.
Type 2 – Yin/Yin:
Yin = inward, flowing, relaxed
Yin = soft, subtle
The double Yin/Yin energy combination expresses itself in a subtle, gentle way. Type 2 people move inward to get a feel for things and gather details before taking action. Even as they take action, they do so in a soft and relaxed way. They have the ability to turn inward and gather more details, often in the form of asking questions, before taking additional steps.
Type 3 – Yang/Yang:
Yang = push forward, dynamic
Yang = substantial, edgy, outward
This double Yang/Yang energy combination expresses itself as a push forward movement that’s substantial and dynamic. Type 3 people often dive in and take action, with only the information they need to take off. They can gather additional information and push their activities forward at the same time, oftentimes creating big results.
Type 4 – Yin/Yang:
Yin = still, reflective
Yang = bold, structured, firm
This Yin/Yang energy combination expresses itself as a Type 4 person’s energy moves inward, then outward. They gather information first, see the big picture, then move forward once they’re ready. The Yin energy allows them to be still and reflective along the way, and their Yang energy supports them in taking action with structure and precision.
Now that you understand your own Yin Yang expression in your Energy Type, how do you see this showing up in your life?
