All About Secondary Energy Types for Type 2

It was so wonderful to connect!

We covered a lot of ground during Type 2 Night this week.

We answered questions like:

  • How does my secondary come into play with relationships?
  • What are the best places for a Type 2 woman to shop?
  • How does each Type 2 woman’s secondary energy influence how she gets things done?

Plus, find out how each lady on the panel discovered their secondary!

Also, Anne describes how she sees each woman’s secondary in their facial features.

Watch the recording and tell us how you discovered your secondary in the comments! (Please note that the recording begins just after the introduction, so there are a few seconds missing.)

  1. Watching so far I know and feel I am a type 2/1 cause I can definitely feel moments where I start a project then I go do something then I get distract and feel frustrated that I need to take time to bring myself back.

  2. I’ve been waiting on this video so I could re-watch it and let Michelle know how pleasantly surprised I was to see her as the S3. She helped me realize that I am a 2/3 after questioning myself. Anne’s examples made me suspect I was a 2/3 but I confirmed it when Michelle said that she wasn’t refashioning things for fun but because she wanted to achieve the result. That is me. Thank you Michelle for having the courage to share.

  3. This is the quote that I was talking about at the end.

“Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong.”

  4. Kelly, I am interested in reading the positivity book you mentioned. Could I get the full title and author?

  5. ThredUp is a great online store for all types! I also like shopruche .com and ModCloth.
Along with the relationships theme, I wanted to add that as a 2/4, I enjoy connections one-on-one or in small groups on a deep level, instead of crowds. This is hard with my husband’s large family, but giving myself a “task” when I’m going to be in a large group, whether it’s as the unofficial photographer or just to make sure my toddler is comfortable, really helps! She has a 4/2 personality, so I try to show her that it’s okay to observe, to interact as she’s ready, and even to just go in the next room and play with the dog or take a few minutes enjoying the quiet of the bathroom. One thing about “events” is that they intimidate me, even if I was thrilled to sign up at first. Parties, TSA and flights, whatever. Having a pad of paper by my bed makes it easy to get out of my head the things I need to remember (and in the morning I can laugh at the things that were keeping me up!), and I love my datebook! Ongoing lists and daily “top three” as well as appointments already listed- I don’t have to keep dates and times in my brain from appointments made last year, I can just deal with things as they come up! Sometimes I have to stop and realize that even if the worst-case-scenario were to happen, how bad would it actually be? Having all the minutiae down on paper instead of trying to juggle it all on my head allows me the room to remember things like that, and be in the moment with my friends and family (preferably just a few at a time 😉

  6. Thank you! This was incredibly helpful. I have known almost since I first read the book. I wasn’t so sure about my secondary, though. I could see different ways that I relate to all of the secondary types. (Maybe that should have been a clue–seeing all the possibilities.) This video confirmed that I am a secondary Type 1. I related to everything she said!

  7. I’m horribly confused. When I began watching this I knew something was off. I could have sworn Michelle was a 2/1. I remember her stating this is episodes past. I even paused the video to check and sure enough, she’s in the 2/1, 1/2 video. I’m wondering, seeing as how she works with all these type professionals, no one was able to see this 3 secondary in her face and tell her she was a 2/3 and not a 2/1 long ago.

    1. I’m sorry for the confusion. They actually plan to reshoot that video as it was filmed years ago and I have since re-evaluated my secondary. As we mentioned in the video, figuring out your secondary can take more time. I was happy being a 2/1 and didn’t feel anything was off so I wasn’t asking for feedback from Carol or anyone else. And even if I had, I may not have been ready to accept that I was a Type 2/3 because of the judgements I had against the Type 3 energy. Until I peeled away the shame and judgement about my secondary 3 energy, I was focused on the Type 1 tendencies that I have. Discovering my type of beauty has been a journey over the years and I hope my personal experience has helped other women become more clear on who they truly are.

  8. This was so awesome! What a great help to our T2 world. I loved seeing all of you and hearing your stories. Your sharing was so beautifully heartfelt and bravely candid. Thank you for that. As always I found myself nodding and talking to you all through the screen lol. Beautifully done, ladies. Thank you.

  9. Wow! What a great video! In answering the final question about Type 2/3 vs 3/2, I finally found the answer I’ve been looking for for 3 1/2 years. Thank you ladies! I’m a 2/3, not a 3/2. I’ve been attempting a Type 3 look, and just realized yesterday how exhausting it was. Today, I dressed in my comfort zone and realized when watching the video that I was wearing gray slouchy boots, textured gray sweater and long silver necklace. Feels like home. One question, how can I order the Type 2 Style Guide? I originally purchased the Type 2 course, but returned my Style Guide in exchange for the Type 3. Thank you for your assistance.

  10. These videos are very interesting. I am still trying to work out my primary, I am not sure if I am a 1/2 or a 2/1. I feel like a 2/1 but the subtle type 2 tones don’t seem to compliment my skin tone. I want to settle on 2/1 and was wondering if you can make the type 2 tones work with any skin tone (cool, neutral and warm) maybe my hair colour which is high contrast (dyed cool ash) was lighter it would work for me. I have possibly been living as a 1/4 and 4/1 and feel permanently exhausted. I just want peace, flow and freedom.

  11. Thank you for this wonderful discussion. I am a 4/2. I have always been a very quiet and sensitive person–even my skin is sensitive! I didn’t want to admit that I am a secondary 2 because my family always told me I was “too soft hearted” and that I needed to “get tough.” Now that I have accepted myself, I am studying Type 2 so I can better understand the strengths of this movement. I also want to express my secondary in my style. Thank you for the lovely quote about water, Michelle. I use my inner strength to be a compassionate leader at my church, however, I have never felt comfortable enough to lead at work. I will pray for the courage to lead in every situation.

  12. So glad to hear more about Michelle’s challenge with accepting her secondary. I have found myself to be more resistant to accepting my secondary than I was to my primary type. Susie in the Type 1 Night recording struck a cord with me when she said that she felt 1’s are irresponsible and 2’s are doormats. I am a 2/1 and was able to accept my 2’ness fairly easily but was resistant on accepting my secondary (which is very obvious in my facial features). My secondary 1, to me just stacked the cards against me, I held the same belief’s as Susie and wanted a secondary that was tougher. My greatest challenge is that I was targeted a lot in my youth by cynical family members and at school because I am both positive and sensitive and some people see that as silly/naive and certainly not in fashion. I am working very hard on accepting myself and not letting others influence my opinion of myself. I am trying to accept that I can be sweet and gentle and that does not mean a “dippy doormat”. Learning how to stand up for myself without getting defensive is hard because part of me always though “what if they are right?” so there is always this underlying fear in me that undermines my natural positivity that I am sure some people pick up on. It was inspiring to see Donna very happy and content with her 2/1’ness and that is how I want to be.

    1. Susan I love what you said about Donna. I felt the same way…she embraces her 2/1 self. I have known all along I was a 2 and a 1 but at times second guessed myself on the order. My behaviors show a S1 many times, like talking more than I perceived a T2 does and being more silly and random and outgoing, adapting. i have always worked with small children and they usually describe me as funny and love to cuddle with me and play. What I noticed though is I can’t sustain the same level of type 1 energy as a t1 can. I need downtime. I often am the first one to reach out in conversation but can’t keep it going as long as a t1. I love this recording and also love that we got to see all the 4 types recordings. Everyone of them was very helpful and well done!!!

      1. Hi Maggie, I am the same in that I can start conversations but can’t sustain them long. I get exhausted easily in groups of people but still like to engage.

  13. Michelle’s third outfit is a great example of how movement can be used. To me it reads very much as a blended, flowing movement with all the texture and pattern. This would be versus an animated, bouncy movement with multiple patterns in a T1 outfit, angular and fast moving movement in a multi-patterned T3 outfit. I can’t imaging more than two patterns together in a T4 outfit though. Thanks Michelle.

  14. I just want to say that I have really enjoyed all the secondary videos. I watched this video and then went back to watch the type 1 video and watched the type 3 as well. While watching the type 2 video, I started questioning my secondary, 2/1 because I could see all the traits in me. Watching the type 1 video did help me to feel, yes that is my secondary…definitely not my primary. During the 2 broadcast someone did very helpfully advise that feeling “all the types” is actually a type 1 trait. I do try to keep in mind that all of us use all the energies, just in different amounts. I think most Mom’s utilize their 3 energy just to keep the family moving! (Both hubby and I are 2’s and sometimes we need the 3 to survive!) I consider myself a 2/1 and my hubby a 2/4. Will be looking forward to the type relationship videos…:)))Thanks so much for doing these videos, I have enjoyed all of them so far and look forward to seeing the 4 as well. Sorry to ramble…have enjoyed reading everyone else’s experience as well.

  15. Oh my gosh! Just had time to listen to this and absolutely loved this program. Thanks to you all for sharing with us. Have determined I am definitely a 2/4 and it makes me feel so much better to know that. I kept thinking “how can I be a type 2 when I prefer the simpler items and not all the ruffles and pattern, etc.”? I just kept doubting myself over and over. Thanks again!

  16. Very moved to hear Michelle’s story of coming home to her T2/3 nature. Thank you for sharing, Michelle, and for continuing to follow your process. Also just loved the comfort of witnessing the array of confident 2-ness.

  17. This was a great video and helped me A LOT to see a another 2/4. Originally I had a hard time determining if I was a 2/4 or 4/2 and the facial profiling helped a lot. I took a dry erase marker and outlined my face in the mirror, stepped aside and saw the true shape of my face and that was BIG for me, because it was exactly a 2.

  18. As a type 2 I just recently realized my secondary energy is actually type 1 not a type 3! This has filled my heart with joy and is so healing as I embrace this bubbly sensitive side of me that was lost in childhood Thank you ladies of Dressing Your Truth!

  19. Anne, I’m a bit confused and would love some clarification. I thought Carol said facial features were one of the best ways to decide type. When you went over each of their secondary types and showed those fascial features in the beginning of the video, I couldn’t help but wonder why those same features don’t make it their primary type? I can definitely see the features you pointed out…what is it that decides those are only coming from their secondary type if fascial features are a strong deciding factor in type?

    Confused. Help?

    Thanks! Karee

    1. Hi Karee, the answer would be that those are their secondary features, as they are not as dominant as their dominant Types features. There is an overall movement of a persons face that expresses their dominant energy. Look at the whole face and what energy does it express? When you pick a part the features one by one, you can’t take in the overall expression and energy of a persons face, you are just judging individual features singularly which creates confusion.

  20. What an amazing video! Thank you ladies for making this. I loved the part about getting distracted and trying to multitask, then getting frustrated when you do that. Wow, I feel the same way! When Michelle shared about her S3 trying to take over it resonated deeply with me. I wonder how I’m able to be so calm and soft but then when I’m frustrated I can just “roar”, lol! I’m trying to remind myself what everyone tries to do. Lead with your dominant, not your secondary. But also, express your secondary because that’s part of you too. Thank you so much!!!

  21. I didn’t realize that when I am negative my judgement is not accurate. That is quite a revelation!

  22. I am sure and happy in thinking I am a 2/1. Along with typical T2 qualities, I am generally optimistic, light, friendly, socialize easily one-on-one with someone, often talking to strangers in an attempt to make them feel comfortable and it’s fun. However, dealing with a lot of people in a crowd or party is overstimulating, and makes me want to go home early, ha-ha… I prefer trying something new with a friend, and will avoid doing so by myself. And yet this video made me doubt my secondary for a minute. I am not scattered, always finish what I start, and work very well alone on a project.
