The Best Type 1 Eyewear: With Secondary Tips from the Experts

Easy breezy tips to make choosing eyewear simple!

There are so many options and a lot of conflicting advice out there about eyewear! Sometimes you pick out a style just because it’s trending that season.

It’s easy to make these common eyewear mistakes when choosing glasses, but thanks to Dressing Your Truth, you know there’s a better way! Every piece of your outfit can be chosen to work with your natural movement and enhance your Type of Beauty.

This even applies to your glasses, which are an important part of your look since they sit right on your face!

Dressing Your Truth teaches the Five Elements of style:

  • Design Line
  • Color
  • Texture
  • Pattern
  • Fabrication

When you apply the Five Elements of Style to your glasses, you can be sure they’re a perfect fit for your light and fun personality.

Design Line

For eyewear, Design Line is going to be expressed in the shape of the frame.

The fashion world tells you to find glasses the opposite shape of your face. For example, they say, “If you have rounder features, you want more angular glasses. And if you have more angular features, you want to soften them with more curved shapes.”

But instead, what you’ll want to do is choose your frame shape that works WITH your features!

Type 1 shapes include:

  • Circles
  • Hearts
  • Stars

This can apply to sunglasses and regular glasses.

For examples of shapes that work for you, see the Eyewear Gallery.

Color, Texture, and Pattern

Color, Texture, and Pattern will be expressed in the design you choose for your frame. You can go with one solid color or a combination of colors creating a pattern and texture. You could even go frameless. All of these choices will increase or decrease the amount of movement going on in the overall design.

As a Type 1, you can have so much fun with this!

It’s up to you if you want your glasses to be more of an animated accessory piece, or simply a matching component to your outfit.

So try a few different options! It could be just right for you to get a little funky and try some fresh colors and patterns.

Fabrication

The element Fabrication will express a little differently than in a garment of clothing. When referring to fabrication of eyewear, look at the overall comfort of the glasses. How it feels on your face.

Every Type wants comfort, eyewear is no exception.

As a Type 1, stick with a lighter frame to keep your energy upbeat and cute! Frames that feel too heavy will be uncomfortable and drag you down.

While you’re trying on glasses, walk around the store, move around in your natural animated, buoyant movement. If the glasses feel uncomfortable anywhere or are too tight or too loose, look for another pair instead.

The following photos are Type 1 women featuring their cute, fun Type 1 eyewear! You’ll be inspired by all the light, animated, and fresh options.

Personal Tips from your Type’s Expert:

Stephanie, Type 1/2

“I need eyewear that will uplift my facial features and magnify my naturally lighthearted and soft nature.

“I prefer an asymmetric frame: That is, if I were to draw a line down the center of either the right lens or the left lens of my glasses, there would not be equal distribution of lens on both sides of the line. I have found that asymmetry is a subtle and effortless way to imbue a pop of buoyancy and animation into my glasses, and it can counteract any heaviness that can come from having too much symmetrical structure on my face.

“I am more wary of frames with starker angular features and will likely avoid more rectangular frame shapes. I love a frame with a larger curve on the bottom and a gentler curve at the top of the frame, both of which join and pique at a wingtip on the upper and outermost portion of the lens. Think gentle cat-eye or easygoing star point.

“I have glasses with a fun purple tint with specs of blended white distributed in random fashion throughout the frame. My sunglasses are white with a blue and yellow floral pattern decorating the upper and outermost portion of the frame. I love it! It makes getting dressed remarkably easy breezy! A few lovely Type 1 neutral clothes, a pop of color from my shoes and my eyewear, and bam! I’m out the door for a day of fun.”

Jeny, Type 1/3

“I prefer a circular shape for my eyewear. I do not like seeing the frame in my field of vision. Because I have large almond-shaped eyes, I need a lot of lens surface to see through. Circular frames allow for this extra space of uninterrupted vision. Plus, circles look great with apple cheeks!

“I have always enjoyed colorful frames. My current frames are royal blue with white polka dots. My favorite brand to find Type 1 glasses is LaFont. They have
colorful fun patterns, designs, and shapes!”

Jaleah, Type 1/4:

“I really like glasses that have a little upturn on the corners, almost like a cat-eye, but not so harsh. I just love them! I always go for this shape when I am picking my glasses.

“I like a more neutral color – brown or navy. When it’s too colorful, my eyes can’t seem to get past the color. I wish I could wear fun colors, but, alas, the neutral ones are for me!”
